Small Group training starts from $30 per hour. Consultations with our registered dietitian are $90 for the first assessment and $60 for each follow-up. Are your services covered by private insurance plans?
Some private health plans will cover our personal training and dietary counselling services, while others do not. Personal training services provided in relation to injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident are generally covered by the client’s automobile insurance policy. Foot care consultations and custom foot orthotics are usually covered by private health insurance plans.
What are the differences between your various fitness packages?
The basic ‘Get Fit’ package includes an initial health assessment by our medical director, an assessment and treatment plan by the personal trainer (including Functional Movement Screen), ongoing personal training sessions and a final report from the Functional Health and Fitness personal trainer, at the end of the program. The ‘Get Fit Plus’ package includes a comprehensive health assessment including nutritional survey, a integrated treatment plan from our medical director and personal trainer, ongoing regular medical follow-up and a comprehensive final report from the medical director and personal trainer. The ‘Get Fit Gold’ package includes all of the ‘Get Fit Plus’, as well as a dietary assessment and ongoing counselling from our registered dietitian and a footand footwear assessment from our foot specialist (chiropodist).
Where is the initial free Health Assessment conducted and how long does it take?
The initial Health Assessment is provided in either the client’s home or in our clinical offices in central Ottawa, depending upon client preference. The assessment takes approximately one hour.
What’s involved in the free Health Assessment?
Functional Health and Fitness’ medical director will conduct a one-on-one interview with each client, discussing their past health history, current medical issues, medications and supplements, family history and nutritional survey, if applicable. Previous exercise programs, goals and proposed methodology are also reviewed. At the end of the Assessment, the client is presented with recommendations for a health and fitness program, expected results, various program options and their associated costs. Clients are under no obligation to purchase services from Functional Health and Fitness, at any point during or after the Health Assessment.
What sort of personal training options are available?
Functional Health and Fitness offers individual training, couple training or even small group sessions. Clients are able to train in their own home, or work with their Functional Health and Fitness trainer at our west-central Ottawa studio. Training frequency varies from one to three times per week, depending upon client preference and timetable.
What sort of equipment do you provide?
Initially, we provide basic exercise equipment, such as floor mat, stability ball, silastic bands and foam roller, depending upon client need. Over time, clients generally purchase these items for themselves, along with free weights and/or kettle bells as they become more advanced in their resistance training.
If I sign up, what are the next steps?
Each new client undergoes a medical exam, where the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, neurologic and other systems (as required) are examined in detail. Biometrics are also noted (body fat %, waist circumference, BMI) and results applied to the client’s treatment plan. With the
Get Fit Plus and
Get Fit Gold programs, clients are also sent for laboratory screening, as required. Medical intervention is offered, where deemed appropriate. Clients are asked to fill out lifestyle and personal health questionnaires and are then referred to their trainer, who will conduct a Functional Movement Assessment, if appropriate. A training plan is formulated and exercise sessions started directly thereafter, at a time (mornings, days, evenings) and place convenient to you.
What sort of results can I expect?
Individual results will vary, but generally, clients who follow our programs will tone up, lose body fat, improve strength and conditioning, increase their energy levels and generally experience an improved sense of self-image and vitality. Results are apparent after 12 weeks of training with ongoing improvements realized over the course of the next 6 to 12 months,
if the client continues to follow their program.
