At Functional Health & Fitness, our exercise and lifestyle programs succeed, where others may not. We believe that to truly help a client, we need to accurately assess their current health status and not just guess at it. Functional Health and Fitness clients benefit from the experience and expertise of our on-staff physician, dietitian and personal trainers, who work together to design a program to meet your unique health and fitness goals.
Health Assessment
Our program starts with a comprehensive interview and medical assessment, where any health problems and lifestyle issues with potential negative impact on the success of a client’s fitness program are identified. If necessary, laboratory testing will be recommended, to detect and document any abnormalities in such areas as blood cholesterol levels, vitamin and mineral deficiency, or joint and soft tissue problems. Thereafter, the client will undergo a biomechanical assessment called a Functional Movement Screen, which evaluates a client’s strength, flexibility and movement patterns, which are key factors to the design of a customized treatment and fitness plan. Finally, depending on the program, a dietary survey and body composition analysis are conducted on each client and where appropriate, a consultation with our registered dietitian arranged to begin the process of dietary change to enhance and optimize the results of their Functional Health and Fitness program.
Once each assessment is conducted, a 3 to 6 month comprehensive treatment plan is formulated and presented to each client, so that they understand and are able to focus on what is required of them, to meet their desired health and fitness goals and achieve optimal health.
Mobile Personal Training
Sessions with the Functional Health and Personal Fitness trainer begin immediately thereafter, and continue on a once to three times weekly basis, depending upon the needs, availability and goals of each client. Once improvements in strength and endurance are realized, progressions are incorporated and the intensity/complexity of the exercise increased in a safe and sustainable manner.
Measurable Results
Clients are reassessed by their trainer, physician and dietitian (depending on the program) at regular intervals throughout their program and a report provided to them upon completion, documenting changes to their body mass, body composition, strength, flexibility and aerobic fitness levels. At the client’s option, the report is shared with their family physician. At this stage, many of our clients will decide to renew and continue their commitment to Functional Health & Fitness, looking to improve upon their gains or simply wishing to maintain their new health status.
