Functional Health and Fitness is an organization made up of certified personal trainers, strength coaches, physicians, dietitians and other allied health professionals

Our belief is that anyone and
everyone may improve their health and athletic performance by applying themselves to our scientifically proven program, designed to increase mobility, improve strength, boost cardiovascular fitness and reduce the risk of injury and chronic health conditions. 

Functional Health and Fitness programs are
completely customized to the needs of the individual, with our health professionals utilizing specific interview, testing and assessment tools to form the basis for each client’s exercise, diet and lifestyle program.

        

Dr. Don Wilson is a Canadian-trained family physician of 25 years, living and practising in Ottawa, Ontario.  He completed his medical degree at the University of Alberta , then his residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal , before establishing his family practice in the Ottawa-Gatineau area in 1986.

In addition to his office practice, Dr. Wilson has had the opportunity to work in local emergency rooms, the ICU as well as numerous walk-in clinics in the area. He has been a registered DAC physician and a physician evaluator for the WSIB in Ontario. Currently, he is a contract physician for several Ottawa Embassies, Parliament Hill and vocational service agencies.  He is completely bilingual in French and English and provides medical services for patients residing in both Ontario and Quebec .

With his passion for patient education and preventative medicine, Dr. Wilson helped to establish a national physicians waiting room television network in 2001. He is keenly interested in sports medicine, biomechanics, is FMS certified and a SFMA-1 graduate. He participates in several sports and is a certified competitive coach in hockey, soccer and basketball.

Dr. Wilson founded Functional Health and Fitness in 2009.

 Peter Henein
 
Peter Henein has 8 years experience as a Personal Fitness Trainer. He has also had the opportunity to work with other health and fitness professionals in the rehabilitation and therapy fields. With an educational background in Exercise Science and Kinesiology, Peter has brought his knowledge into his approach to training. He has helped his clients achieve their goals whether it be to improve sports performance, lose weight, post-rehabilitation training, or bodybuilding. During his years as a Personal Trainer, Peter has also become a Bootcamp specialist, driving his small groups with intensity, and creativity. Whether for his bootcamps, or his one-on-one trainings, Peter’s program designs are innovative, balanced, and fun.

France Wathier is a certified personal trainer, who has been involved in the health and fitness industry since 2005. She has worked in a variety of settings, including corporate health, fitness centers, high school sports programs, mom and baby classes, yoga, group fitness (boot camps) and home fitness. France's exercise programs are meticulously planned and designed to address each client's specific health and fitness needs. France specializes in core training, functional exercise and postural correction to improve form, functionality and performance, using methods which will help her clients reach their goals, along with improved strength and vitality. France takes the time to understand each client's lifestyle, their fitness needs and provides lots of positive encouragement with her programs. She works hard to create a positive learning environment and inspire her clients, to ensure that they stay motivated and enjoy their workouts.

 Helene Charlebois
 
 As a Registered Dietitian, Hélène Charlebois brings her 20+ years of experience in the Nutrition Counselling field to Functional Health and Fitness, and a fresh perspective on women's health issues. She has special certifications in adult weight management Level 1 & 2 (ADA) to help in the prevention and treatment of Metabolic Syndrome, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Hypertension and PCOS. She's known by her clients and peers as a mentor / lifestyle coach in the often-confusing world of weight management. 

Having graduated from McGill University, Hélène became an entrepreneur, and opened one of the first private nutrition practices in Canada, followed by a tenure as President of the Consulting Dietitians of Canada & Board Member of the Dietitians of Canada (2006-2009)

Along with offering private nutrition counselling to her clients, Hélène has developed and facilitated her one day workshop, Waisting Away(R): Weight Management Strategies for Health Care Professional. Since 2009. Waisting Away(R) has become a National sucess and she has given more than 20 presentations across Canada to over 1000 Allied Health Professionals. 

Hélène continues to be a much sought-after speaker throughout Canada with media work extending to television spokesmanships with Quaker Oats and Tropicana Canada. Not to mention being a nutrition expert to radio, magazines, newspapers, podcasts, webletters, and various Government agencies.
